Enough is enough!

(NLT) Psalms 90:13-17 O Lord come back to us! How long will you delay? Take pity on your servants! Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives. Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good. Let us see your miracles again; let our children see your glory at work. And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts succesful.Yes make our efforts succesful!

We all speak about change and clearly see the need for change. We have become like the consumer who oohs and stares at the product in the window never bothering to ask the price or commit to the purchase of it. What will it cost us to see change? What price would you be willing to pay for a reformation in our day? Where sickness and disease is done away with to the point where Local Pharmacys like Walgreens and CVS have to close due to the lack of buisiness. A world in which purity and abstinance is regarded as beautiful instead of degraded by movies like the 40 Year Old Virgin. A world in which crime is rare and not paraded on T.V. by shows like Cops and played out in the eyes of our children in highly popular video games like Grand Theft Auto.

Some have turned to government and politics for change. Where are those who will rattle the gates of heaven and believe for an outpouring of His Spirit? Some men trust in horses and others in chariots but where are those who trust in the name of our God?!Â

I believe in the remnant. Those who as God spoke to Elijah have not bowed down to the evil of their day!

Prayer changes things! So let us unite in the Spirit of prayer and perservere till God answers!

Death of a Salesman

Posted by Steve Simpson on 22 May 2007 | Tagged as: Manhood |

I met an old salesman today whom, when I first met, seemed like the type of man every younger man looks up to- Past retirement age and still on top of his game. I liked him because he wasn’t pretty, nor did he try to be- he had grown accustomed to himself. Relatively speaking, I’m a newcomer to sales, and being involved in men’s work I am constantly surveying my surroundings watching how both young and old men interact, so I was interested to see what this veteran had to say when he approached me, and what sage mentoring he would offer- I’m into the whole young guy/old guy relationship thing.

I was on the lot by myself, trying to familiarize myself with the inventory when I realized he was there. “Where did you work before?”, he asked. I told him how I had been in the insurance industry and had naively trusted that those leading me were always telling the truth. Being into the whole mentoring thing leaves a few weak places in my armor exposed, so I tend to fall into it and blind myself to being used.

I examined his face, noticing that this man was a veteran of life. His left ear had a bandage on it, and it was clear that at some time in his past he had had some accident or sickness as his face was somewhat unbalanced, signs of a surgery that probably formed this man and gave him the distinctive persona of survivor and warrior. As I marvelled at the character and longevity of this man of ages, I noticed my defenses raise in preparation for a sucker punch. Continue Reading »

The Smell of Rain

Posted by Cliff Burns on 21 May 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized |

Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before. The threshing floors shall be full of grain; the vats shall overflow with wine and oil. I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit. Joel 2:23-29

Have you ever taken the time to stand outside just before it rained? Did you notice how you could smell everything around you; the grass, the air, the coming rain? Do you remeber the stillness? The soft breeze? Whether it was a storm or a soaking shower you could always feel it. You could always smell it.

It is going to rain. It is going to rain soon. I can’t say when. I can only say I can smell it. I can feel that quiet peace, that stillness.

We’ve been in a drought for far too long. We haven’t seen a move of God since the days of Hebrides, Scotland. This land is parched, and looking for water everywhere, only to find mostly salt and mud. We curse our land because there is no fruit. But there will be a day where there will be more fruit than we will know what to do with, and we will celebrate because lives will be turned around. The dry years will be restored.

Be prepared. Pray for a move of God expectantly. It is coming.

A Word in Season

Proverbs 18:4 Nlt A person’s words can be life-giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook. Â

Most men have no problem talking about sports. With 24 hours of ongoing sports news, radio and internet updates their talks are full of all kinds of useless stats and info. Now don’t get me wrong! I can talk sports with the best of them. Yet those conversations have never left a lasting impression in my life. Yet there are words that I have recieved years ago that I still draw from today.Â

The only difference in who you are today as opposed to who you where 2 yrs ago is the places you’ve been, the people you’ve met and the Words you’ve attained.

Words help form our world as we’ve been learning at ClCTX. Yet what words are we speaking to help create a better world for someone else. A world in which they can have a collision with a Living God. It is just not enough for us to go to the Word and get a Word for our life and situation. The time has come that we be carriers of a Word that will satisfy the thirst of another!

Proverbs 18:20 Word’s satisy the soul as food satisfies the stomach; the right words on a person’s lips bring satisfaction.

Make a determination today to be that messenger!

MAN OF LA MANCHA - The Impossible Dream

Posted by Dr John King on 16 May 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized |

To dream the impossible dream.
To fight the unbeatable foe.
To bear with unbearable sorrow.
To run where the brave dare not go.

To right the unrightable wrong.
To love pure and chaste from afar.
To try when your arms are too weary.
To reach the unreachable star.

This is my quest.
To follow that star.
No matter how hopeless.
No matter how far.

To fight for the right.
Without question or pause.
To be willing to march into Hell.
For a heavenly cause.

And I know if I’ll only be true.
To this glorious quest.
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm.
When I’m laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this.
That one man, scorned and covered with scars.
Still strove with his last ounce of courage.
To reach the unreachable star.

Prosperity for Generations

Posted by Cliff Burns on 13 May 2007 | Tagged as: Devotions, Wealth |

For David said, “Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all lands. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David provided materials in great quantity before his death. 1 Chronicles 22:5

There is a difference between preparing prosperity for future generations, and hoarding material posessions for the purpose of earthly gain. One desires to get, the other desires to give. I do not think that storing up for your family’s future is in violation of Jesus’ commandment to store up treasure in heaven. Why? Because you are preparing your progeny to do more for the Kingdom of God than you ever could. I don’t believe every generation should start from scratch, because then we are only accomplishing what the previous generation could accomplish.

David began storing up resources to build a temple for God, even though it was his son’s calling to do it. He was building his son’s prosperity so his son could devote resources he could not have freely given in his own lifetime.

But that’s laying up treasure on earth. No. It is ensuring that future generations can do more for God and build upon what was given to them for their future generations.

Flies in the Ointment

Posted by Cliff Burns on 10 May 2007 | Tagged as: In The News |

We live in a world today where one person or one blanket organization can own and control many different companies under different names. This could be good, or this could be bad.

Let’s say a company that publishes books for men wanted to publish a book for women. They would create or buy a new company and publish the women’s book under the new name. Sounds like a good idea.

But what if you own a publisher of Christian books like Zondervan and wanted to produce pornographic material? Well, you would also own Harper Collins which published the book How to Have Sex Like a Porn Star. This isn’t speculation. This is a real life case.

How can the owner of a well known publisher of Bibles and Christian books also have his hand in the porn industry - not just books, but also hard core television stations? Here’s my theory.

Because the sacred is treated as a gimmick, because it’s just another market, because “Christians” are too soft to make a stand. It’s this type of behavior that give followers of Christ a bad name. I am sick of people and churches that are afraid to speak the truth because they’re afraid of offending someone, churches that won’t confront a person’s sin, and churches that preach a crossless, Christless, and hell-less gospel. I am sick of people who would pollute the truth with a little bit of a lie for personal gain.

In Leviticus, something that even touches an unclean thing was deemed unclean. So it goes, I believe, in this case. By embracing both sides, the clean and unclean, we are introducing flies into the ointment. The ointment may be mostly clean, it may kinda sorta work, but it’s contaminated. If you had 100 gallons of water and knew that there was a single drop of cyanide in it, would you drink it? I wouldn’t.

It’s time for the church to rise up and separate itself from the world, not ostracize it, but to be a light, different and standing out in the darkness, because in the dark, everything looks the same. It’s time for people to quit going to church for a fix and start going to collide with Christ. It’s time for a church reformation, for people to stop sticking thier fingers in the dirt and then in the ointment, it’s time for a clean ointment that can heal our people, not an ointment filled with flies.

National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 3

Posted by Cliff Burns on 01 May 2007 | Tagged as: Man Events |

Guys, this Thursday, the first Thursday in May, has been declared the National Day of Prayer. Has this nation become so lax in prayer that we have to declare a national day to remind people to come together in prayer? No wonder this nation is in this state of moral decay. People aren’t humbling themselves to pray, let alone praying at all. How will God hear from heaven if we don’t pray? Our nation will not be what it once was as long as we take a single day out of the entire year to pray.

In Scotland, 30 men met in a barn until 3 or 4 in the morning for months. The result? The town bar was closed, it’s been closed ever since and today lies in ruins. People would crowd the local church to repent of their sins; there was no formal announcement that the church was even open, no advertising. People were found face down along the roads crying out to God, because God made them aware of their sin. It was said that every young person age 12 to 20 became a Christian within 48 hours.

I don’t want to discount the fact that our government has officially recognized a day of prayer. I just want to say that it takes more than a day of prayer to change a nation. I want to see national days of prayer; not government sanctioned events once a year, but a yearning to see God change a nation - a yearning so strong men will pray all hours of the day and night, not stopping until God heals their land.

Meet for this day of prayer, but don’t let the end of the day be the end of prayer. Let it be the beginning.
