December 2007Monthly Archive Your Word is Your BondPosted by Dr John King on 19 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized | John 14:21 The test of true character of a person is not what they do in public but, what they think about and carry out when they are alone. Consistency is the testimony of a man’s maturity. Today our society deals with images, not with issues. We worship superstars and don’t honor heroes. Now reflect on this: Convictions are based on truth. Preferences are based on convenience and often feelings. Therefore, truth is not a relative thing in your life, it’s an absolute. It is not an optional extra but a guiding light. Truth does not mean you get to hear what you want to hear, but what you need to hear. Truth ultimately brings freedom if you allow it to. All truth starts as information. However, only through application does truth bring transformation. It is in the transformation of a man that he starts to walk in freedom. The Death Walk of Charlie PeacePosted by Steve Simpson on 16 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized | Charlie Peace was a criminal. Laws of God or man curbed him not. Finally the law caught up with him, and he was condemned to death. On the fatal morning in Armley Jail, Leeds, England, he was taken on the death-walk. Before him went the prison chaplain, routinely and sleepily reading some Bible verses. The criminal touched the preacher and asked what he was reading. Charlie Peace was shocked at the way he professionally read about hell. Could a man be so unmoved under the very shadow of the scaffold as to lead a fellow-human there and yet, dry-eyed, read of a pit that has no bottom into which this fellow must fall? Could this preacher believe the words that there is an eternal fire that never consumes its victims, and yet slide over the phrase with a tremor? Is a man human at all who can say with no tears, “You will be eternally dying and yet never know the relief that death brings”? All this was too much for Charlie Peace. So he preached. Listen to his on-the-eve-of-hell sermon. “Sir” addressing the preacher, “if I believed what you and the church of God say that you believe, even if England were covered with broken glass from coast to coast, I would walk over it, if need be, on hands and knees and think it worth while living, just to save one soul from an eternal hell like that!” Three Kinds of MenPosted by Bryson Sanders on 14 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized | There are three kinds of men: winners, losers and fighters. The winners are blessed with favor, no matter what they do, life treats them like gods. The losers waste their energies whinning like scolded children; they will amount to nothing. The fighters keep their swords sharp and their sheilds high; they expect nothing they do not battle for, but they fight until they drop. If you want something pray and plan for it. Think of all that can go wrong and picture all that can be done to make it right. Then do it, dont talk endlessly about it. Do it! Huckabee’s View on CreationPosted by Dr John King on 07 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized | Dear DadPosted by Dr John King on 06 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized | A father passing by his son’s bedroom was astonished to see that his bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to “Dad.” Dear Dad: It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice. But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercing, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is 25 years older than I am. But it’s not only the passion… Dad, she’s pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter! We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone. We’ll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy. In the meantime we will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves it. Don’t worry, Dad. I’m 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I’m sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get to know your grandchildren. Love, Your son Jeff P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at Tommy’s house. Just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than a report card. That is in my center desk drawer. Call me when it’s safe to come home. |
