April 2008Monthly Archive For the Kids - Big and SmallPosted by Cliff Burns on 29 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: Announcements | I just wanted to let all you readers know that Guy Thing Press will be releasing issue number two of the Warriors Creed comic on May 1. You can already get a sneak peak on the website. I know there’s already much anticipation from the kids at our church. They loved the first issue, and can’t wait to get their hands on the next one. Lumpy Rugs - Ugly and DangerousPosted by Cliff Burns on 14 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized | On my route to work, there is an intersection where the road changes from three lanes to two lanes. The third lane becomes a right turn only lane and disappears on the other side of the intersection. In driving this route every day, I’ve seen many people miss this simple fact - The lane won’t be there when they cross the intersection. Rather than following the directions marked on the road and then turning around to correct their mistake, they would rather drive as fast as they can on the shoulder to get into the smallest possible space, cutting off the person they’re now in front of in an effort to hide their mistake. The only problem is that person you just cut off noticed, and they may have a bad case of road rage, or you may get ticketed, or you may cause an accident. It’s a lot like sweeping a broken vase under a rug. When you opt for the quick fix in order to hide a mistake - essentially hiding it under the rug - people notice. You haven’t really hidden anything, because when you cover it up with the rug, you just leave a lump in the rug where the mistake is. That leaves a chance for someone to trip over it, someone to take notice and follow up on you fixing it correctly, or even destroying the rug itself, and the rug just gets ugly. When you properly correct your mistake, people may notice, but usually grace is extended. It may take extra time to fix, but you’ll complete your task without a major incident. There’s no need to hide it under the rug and the rug doesn’t get lumpy. A lumpy rug is an eyesore and a danger to those who walk on it. A clean flat rug shows it’s beauty and poses no danger to those around. Don’t hide your mistakes, fix them. |
