November 2008Monthly Archive Do We Really Believe the Book?Posted by Cliff Burns on 11 Nov 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized | I came across a statistic today that saddened me. That stat - 24% of the evangelical vote in our most recent election went to a man who, at least according to his record in public office, does not uphold Biblical values. That may not sound like much, but that means one in four people either do not believe the Bible’s stance on morality, are ignorant about Biblical values, or just don’t care enough about what the Bible says. That may be a large jump to connect the two, but consider a poll conducted by the Barna Group in 2006. It stated “48% of all adults agreed strongly that the Bible is totally accurate in all of its teachings.” More than half of Evangelicals of voting age do not believe the Bible in its entirety. If we can’t get the fact that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God right, how can we get morality, which comes from God’s Word, right? Yes, God is on the throne, and everything works for the good of those called by God and love God, according to His purpose, but…. What kind of a difference could we Bible-believing evangelicals make if we really believed the Bible and acted according to it? |
